Rande Cook, Kwakwaka'wakw, explores European tradition of narrative painting. Blending contemporary with his West Coast traditional style. This is a pivotal time as Cook faced obstacles being seen as an Indigenous traditional artist only. He was motivated to create space for himself in the contemporary art world.

Rande Cook uses the European tradition of narrative painting in this piece. This original painting was in an art show called Urban Thunderbird: Ravens in a Material World held by the Victoria Art Gallery in 2013-2014. A collective exhibition depicting a visual truth-telling of the dual cultural existence of "modern-day, self-proclaimed" Indigenous artists and their art navigating both traditional responsibility and contemporary tradition. Cook expresses in this piece at the present time of the state of the world in Ravenous: all about personal gratification.
